Birth Off the Beaten Path

For the moms who value authenticity, empowerment, and continuity from pregnancy to postpartum

A personalized program covering childbirth education, lactation counseling, and postpartum wellness through an occupational therapy informed lens

Birth Off the Beaten Path is a 3-4 month personalized support program for first-time moms—especially those living in rural areas—who want clear, grounded education around physiologic childbirth, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery and realities.

You’re here because the standard approach to birth doesn’t feel like the right fit. You want to feel informed, confident, and supported—not pressured or confused.

Birth Off the Beaten Path gives you clear, personalized guidance from pregnancy through early postpartum. Whether you’re a first-time mom planning for an unmedicated birth, or a mom wanting a different experience this time, this program helps you understand your options, advocate for yourself, and navigate the realities of postpartum life—even with limited local resources.

This program is for you if:

  • You’re a first-time mom (or a mom wanting a different experience than your previous birth)

  • You live in a rural or underserved area with limited alternative birth or lactation resources

  • You want comprehensive physiologic birth education intentionally designed to meet you where you are

  • You value true informed consent but aren’t sure what questions to ask

  • You want breastfeeding support that continues after you’re home, not just in the hospital or birth center

  • You’re looking for personalized guidance with clear next steps, not generic advice

THE TRANSFORMATION YOU’LL EXPERIENCE

Instead of sorting through conflicting advice or fear-based messages, you’ll gain calm, clear understanding—so you can approach birth, feeding, and recovery with confidence, no matter where you give birth.

Through personalized, ongoing support, you will:

  • Replace fear with understanding
Learn how birth and breastfeeding are designed to work, so you feel grounded and prepared whether you’re birthing at a hospital, birth center, or at home.

  • Know your options—and how to advocate for yourself
Understand labor and birth choices in plain language, so you can give true informed consent and feel confident communicating with your care team.

  • Feel prepared even if things don’t go “as planned”
Receive prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding support, so you’re not caught off guard if feeding looks different than you expected.

  • Understand what’s normal for newborns
Learn biological norms around feeding, sleep, and development, helping you trust your instincts and avoid unnecessary worry during the early weeks.

  • Learn how physiologic birth supports recovery and feeding
Understand how working with your body can support breastfeeding success, reduce interventions and complications, and lead to a smoother, more functional recovery.

  • Leave with a personalized recovery and postpartum plan
Reduce risk, build confidence, and have a clear, realistic plan for healing, newborn care, and the transition into daily life—including return-to-work considerations if applicable.

Birth isn’t something to “figure out as you go.” By preparing ahead of time, you’ll spend less time worrying—and more time resting, bonding, and feeling confident with your baby.

As a first-time mom, I knew something was “off” immediately postpartum. Breastfeeding hurt, my baby woke up constantly, and she seemed inconsolable. Every time I asked for guidance, I heard, “every baby is different.”

Instead of spending hours Googling questions or searching online forums, Birth Off the Beaten Path gives you real support from pregnancy through postpartum.

  • Mom of 2

  • Certified childbirth educator + fanatic

  • Certified Lactation Counselor

  • Occupational therapist

I've had two uncomplicated physiologic births: one birth center birth, and one home birth. However, with both of my babies, I've encountered breastfeeding problems, airway and sleep troubles, and infant discomfort. The initial weeks were extra tough due to these unforeseen circumstances. Looking back, I wish I had one person to support and guide me instead of receiving insanely fragmented care from IBCLCs to ENT to infant feeding therapists and more, though they were all critical to our mother-baby dyad successes. After over a full year in the deepest trenches with my daughter, supporting other moms has become my biggest passion at this stage in life. I’ve taken extensive courses for infant feeding (specifically tongue tie as a whole body issue), lactation, and sleep. I continue to live and breathe the birth world through walking alongside friends in the initial years postpartum, constantly listening to birth podcasts, and learning daily through my own lived experiences with young children.

I live in rural Alaska off of the road system (which is a big reason I started this program!) with my daughter aged 3 years, and my son aged 7 months. We enjoy picking tundra berries, experiencing the swings of extreme daylight and darkness, and living life as slowly as possible as a busy young family.
